Our Family Looking After Yours for the Last 20 Years
Dr Johann Pretorius and his highly qualified team are pleased to offer you a centre for dental excellence in a fully equipped, modern dental facility in Providenciales. After qualifying and running his own practice in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr Jo moved to London and spent over 8 years running two practices there, one in Oxford Street, Central London.
He has over 30 years experience and has attended numerous advanced dental courses and pioneered the first preventative dentistry program in the Turks & Caicos, introducing a dental hygiene service which now caters to full time residents and seasonal visitors alike.
Dr Jo provides comprehensive general dental care including examination and diagnosis, fillings, extractions, crowns and bridges, endodontics, cosmetic dentistry and of course emergency treatment and pain relief.
He works on a daily basis with Beth Otto-Darko a highly qualified dental hygiene therapist. Beth trained in the UK to provide not only hygiene treatment but also fillings for children and adults. Beth is joined by Lise Gula, hygienist, on a part time basis. Lise is our longest serving member of staff who was trained in Canada. Together they spearhead a strong preventative dentistry program which includes new patient orientation for children to set up a lifetime of good dental care.
In 2011 he introduced Nitrous Oxide sedation (laughing gas) to the practice – another first for the Turks and Caicos islands and the only general dental practice offering this service. Nitrous Oxide relieves anxiety, reduces sensitivity and is widely used in dental procedures throughout the world.
Dr Jo recognises that patients in the islands often need advanced dental care from specialists not resident in the islands and he therefore introduced:
Consultant Orthodontist – Dr J Victor Eagan who provides braces and Invisalign. Dr Eagan travels from his very successful practice in Michigan USA and has become extremely popular with all his patients here. He has trained all the staff at Dental Services to work with braces and Invisalign – providing full continuity of care for orthodontic patients when he is not on island.
Consultant Periodontists – Dr R Ed del Amo and Dr J Mellado who provide periodontal surgery and implants. Dr E del Amo and Dr J Mellado have been providing specialist periodontal services to patients from the islands at their practices in Florida for many years and Dr Pretorius was delighted when they offered to travel to the islands and work directly in the Dental Services clinic. Dr Mellado is now a Director to the Board of Periodontology in the USA. Their services include implants, gum surgery, sinus lifts, bone grafts, Botox and fillers.
At Dental Services the whole team aims to ensure that residents and visitors’ dental requirements are properly diagnosed and treated calmly and professionally, so that their time in these beautiful islands can be spent with a pain free and confident smile!
For your convenience between our staff we can speak English, French, Spanish, Creole and Africaans.

Dr. José R. Mellado
“Becoming a periodontist was the right decision for me. I love waking up in the morning and being glad to go to work. I enjoy the dental challenges I see every day in the office, and I’m encouraged by the success stories of my patients.”
Dr. R. Eduardo del Amo
“I always knew I would become a dentist and entered dental school without a particular field of dentistry in mind. In my sophomore year in dental college, I was leaning toward becoming an oral surgeon, but I found the day-to-day routine quite monotonous…”
Dr. J Victor Eagan, DDS
For Dr. J. Victor Eagan, orthodontics isn’t just an interest, it’s in his blood. Dr. Eagan is the son of Dr. John Eagan, the first African American orthodontist in the state of Michigan and the third African American orthodontist in the world.
He started working in his father’s office when he was 10 years old, and he’s known since then that he was going to be an orthodontist, too.
